Preparation
1. Let's get started by crumbling the ground beef into a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until it's beautifully browned. Once done, drain most of the grease, leaving just enough to coat the pan. Now, toss in those onions and cook for a few extra minutes until they're nice and tender.
2. Now, pour in 4 cups of milk into the pan and give it a good stir to scrape up any delicious bits stuck to the bottom. Next, mix in the bouillon, butter, sage, salt, and pepper. Bring it all to a lovely boil, then let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently to let those flavors mingle.
3. Here's where the magic happens! Mix the flour into the last cup of milk until it's nice and smooth. Slowly pour this mixture into the skillet, stirring constantly. Let it simmer for a few more minutes until it thickens up to your liking. If it gets too thick, just add a splash more milk. If it's a bit too thin, simmer a tad longer or sprinkle in a bit more flour. And of course, don't forget to taste and adjust those seasonings to perfection before serving.
4. Now, all that's left to do is ladle this delicious gravy over some warm buttermilk biscuits. Enjoy every comforting bite!
